In 1961, Franco Basaglia became director of the mental hospital in Gorizia and started his long struggle against mental asylums, which years leter led to their suppression in Italy.That same year saw the publication of Michel Foucault's History of Madness, Erving Goffman's Asylums and the Wretched of the Earth, the last book by Frantz Fanon. The stars were all aligned in the sky above Gorizia. This unpredictable constellation led to a transformation of the psychiatric universe and also of the social, political and pholisophical landscape, which would have manifested across 60s and 70s.
Like the character of Faust, Basaglia discovers the vanity of all knoledge and begins an ethical journey in which the access to truth involves a radical transformation of oneself. Wearing his alchemist's hat, he will lead us along the milky way - a mix of words, images and musica - in search of the buried strength of the possible.
