[Text available only in English] A human being, not a character, the Ordinary Man, one and all and his synapse, simple and basic electrical impulses. They are both exposed to the continuous, obsessive and hectic pressure of life. Reality imposes an amount of data and information far too big to be processed by an ordinary man and his synapse. Any attempt to do so ends with a log out of the system.
Log Out is an audio-visual performance by the artistic association The Factory and the sound artist Giovanni Magaglio and produced by the Florentine Centre for Music Production, Research and Education Tempo Reale. Log Out is a mixture of different techniques, technologies and arts.
The visual core of the performance consists in a “3D” video mapping on 4 “plasto-forma” faces (synthetic gypsum) molded on a 3D model obtained with digital photogrammetry and printed with SLS technique. The projection mapping technique makes the video projection adapt perfectly to the plaster faces, creating a “solid” 3D effect, which is both digital and physical.
The sound research investigates the wide range of human voice sounds, exploring and molding the various elements of the voice timbre. Human language blends in with music and creates a complex integrated formal structure due to electronic elaboration, synthesis and rarefaction techniques and accumulation and development of phonetic elements. The result is a research on the relation between words and sounds, human voice and music.
The ordinary man is conceptually represented in Log Out by the actor on stage: a faceless and voiceless man, a figure with undefined features, a symbol of annihilation. The great amount of sound and visual effects in the performance collides with the actor’s stillness as the overload of data of contemporary society collides with the human inability in facing and processing them.
Log Out explores the relation between the most simple structures of human thought and highly complex structure of contemporary society with its impositions and its constant, vain quest of an unattainable balance.
