[Text available only in English] We come from Naxos, a Greek island in the Cyclades, increasingly overwhelmed by mass tourism and privatized shores and noisy desalination units. However, there are still untouched natural areas where we have hiked (or dived to) and captured moments of silence, rocky landscapes, seascapes, and waves that cannot be owned, belonging to everyone and no one at the same time. We have intentionally kept the identity of these locations unknown. To preserve their essence while maintaining their anonymity, we have distorted the content with mirroring effects, ensuring that the core aesthetic remains intact while preventing the exact locations from being identified (and making them AI-proof).
This is a 25' projection of seascapes and landscapes accompanied by their ambient soundscapes in Mediterranean. The visitors can sit back and relax, get absorbed to this environment. The experience can take place in single or multi-projection system and the content can be adapted to any shape of structure or just on the surface of the sand slope. The visitor will be invited to sit back and relax. The more they see and hear repetitive patterns and sounds, the more they will start observing micro-details. It is also fine if they just lie down and eventually fall asleep. It is a break from the constant talking and stress. They deserve to enjoy the silence.
Topics/questions for discussion that concern the project: Could the utilization of virtual environments bring natural places to the visitors instead of them traveling there in order to reduce their CO2 footprint? How green-washed is the pre-mentioned question? How does social media through constant sharing of name and location of a natural isolated place contribute to turning a "natural paradise" into a victim of mass-tourism and therefore removing the local wildlife and inhabitants and replacing them with short rental units?
